MEET THE TEAM

Behind every patient is a team that truly cares. At Central Vet Midwater, each team member brings compassion, experience and a genuine love for animals into everything they do. We are here to make both you and your pet feel supported, understood and cared for.

  • Dr Marlene Jacobs

    Veterinarian & Practice Owner

Dr Marlene is a true Middelburg local, and her love for animals and the community runs deeply through the heart of Central Vet Midwater. After qualifying from Onderstepoort in 2006, she worked at Oribi Animal Clinic with Dr Leon Connoway before joining Middelburg Animal Hospital, where she spent many years growing her experience and later became a partner.

In 2021, Dr Marlene bought Central Vet and brought with her years of knowledge, dedication and a calm, practical approach to veterinary care. She has a special interest in complicated small animal medical work-ups, as well as production animal medicine, with a strong focus on intensive sheep farming.

Outside of the practice, Dr Marlene spends her time with her husband, two young children, their Dobermann Pinscher and their cross Collie, Daisy.

  • Dr Suné Hertzog

    Veterinarian

Dr Sune Hertzog grew up on a farm near Groblersdal in Limpopo, where her love for animals started early. She graduated from Onderstepoort in 2022, where she also met her husband, Munnik.

After qualifying, Dr Sune completed her community service in Mogwase and later worked in private practice in Rustenburg. She joined Central Vet Midwater in June 2025 and quickly became a valued part of the team.

Dr Sune has a special interest in small animal practice and is passionate about providing high-quality, compassionate care. In her free time, she enjoys running, reading and spending time with her husband and their pets.

  • Sr Lelani Louw

    Veterinary Nurse

Sr Lelani qualified at Onderstepoort in 2017 and has worked in both Krugersdorp and Ceres before moving back to Middelburg in 2023. She later joined the Central Vet Midwater team, where her careful and gentle approach makes her an important part of patient care.

She is especially diligent when caring for hospital patients and takes great pride in making sure they are comfortable, monitored and treated with kindness.

Outside of work, Sr Lelani enjoys the outdoors and reading. She recently got engaged to her high school sweetheart, which adds a beautiful new chapter to her story.

  • Liané Brits

    Animal Health Technician Student

Liane was born in Gauteng and moved to the Western Cape at the age of 10, where she grew up. After matric, she moved to Mpumalanga to continue her studies and is currently studying Animal Health Technology through UNISA.

She joined Central Vet in April 2026 and brings a gentle, caring energy to the team. Liane has a deep love for animals and believes every animal deserves the best possible care to live a happy, healthy life.

She is also an active equestrian and has earned her South African colours in SANESA, which reflects her dedication, discipline and lifelong love for animals.

  • Bernadene du Plessis

    Veterinary Team Assistant

Bernadene, lovingly known as "Bernie", grew up in Middelburg and later studied in Pretoria, where she received her diploma in Nature Management in 2010. Her love for nature, animals and the beauty of the world around her has always been part of who she is.

Over the years, Bernie has worked at multiple veterinary practices, gaining valuable experience and a soft understanding of both animals and their owners. She recently moved back to Middelburg with her husband, their two boys and their family pets.

Bernie became part of the Central Vet team in 2026 and is always willing to help wherever she is needed.

  • Sandra Wright

    Practice Manager

Sandra is our devoted Practice Manager and has been part of the original Central Vet team for over 20 years. She has grown with the practice, and her experience, loyalty and steady presence are vital to the success of Central Vet Midwater.

She knows the practice, the clients and the rhythm of daily veterinary life deeply. Her care and commitment help keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

Sandra has a soft spot for her animals too. She currently owns a Chihuahua, dearly loves her Yorkie, and has a special place in her heart for her Jack Russell Terrier. She also loves reading and spending time with her granddaughter.

  • Lerato Mohlala

    Clinic Support & Housekeeping

Lerato has been part of Central Vet since 2017 and is one of the quiet reasons the practice feels neat, clean and welcoming. She keeps everything tidy, organised and ready for the team, patients and clients.
