Long before Central Vet Midwater became the incredible practice it is today, there was already a deep love for animals at the heart of its story.

Central Vet Franchising CC was started in Middelburg in the late 1990s by Dr Les Orsmond, a respected and well-known veterinarian who made a meaningful mark in the veterinary field and in the town. In those early years, Central Vet played an important role in helping other veterinary clinics across South Africa by distributing medicine and supporting the wider veterinary community. A wonderful milestone!

After Dr Orsmond’s passing in the 2000s, his wife, Mrs Orsmond, continued the legacy he had dreamed of. But she carried another dream too: to grow Central Vet into something MORE. And she did! She saw the potential for a place where pet owners could find trusted products, helpful advice and gentle veterinary care under one roof.

In 2018, that dream took another step forward when Central Vet moved to the Midwater Centre in Middelburg. What began as a large vet shop with a small clinic slowly started to grow by the day. More and more pet owners came through the doors. More animals needed care. More families needed guidance. And little by little, the clinic became more than just a small add-on to the shop. It became a place where people felt they could bring the animals they loved when they needed help.

In 2022, Dr Marlene Jacobs bought Central Vet and changed the name to Central Vet Midwater. With her passionate heart for medicine, her love for problem-solving and her deep respect for every patient, she continued growing the practice into the fully equipped veterinary clinic and vet shop it is today, with the help of an incredible, hardworking team.

For Dr Marlene, it is not only about treating symptoms. Her belief is to listen carefully, look deeper, find answers and help every pet receive the treatment plan they truly need. Her vision has always been to create an open, welcoming clinic where pet owners feel safe, heard and respected.

We know that every animal who walks through our doors belongs CLOSELY to someone’s heart. The puppy you brought home with excitement. The kitten who became part of your family. The old companion who has walked beside you for years. The little soul who trusts you completely.

It is truly our privilege to walk that road with you and we hope that we can continue to walk the journey with you.

Central Vet Midwater has grown over the years, but the heart of the practice has stayed the same: to care deeply, to treat kindly, and to give every animal our best.
